Journey through the rolling hills of Chianti, where centuries-old winemaking traditions blend seamlessly with modern innovation. This full-day tour offers a unique opportunity to experience the contrasts of Tuscan viticulture, from the grandeur of the Fattoria di Vignamaggio to the charm of a small, family-run estate. Along the way, you'll visit Panzano in Chianti and Greve in Chianti, two of Tuscany's best perserved towns, and pass by the picturesque hamlets and medieval castles of the Chianti Classico region.

Morning: The Heart of Family Winemaking

Your adventure begins as your private driver collects you from your accomodation, whisking you away to the heart of the Chianti Classico region. Your first stop is a small, family-owned estate nestled in the San Donato in Poggio area. 

As you arrive, you'll be greeted by a member of the family who will guide you through their vineyards and cellars. You'll learn about their sustainable farming practices and traditional winemaking techniques, which have been passed down through generations. The passion and personal touch in every aspect of their operation embody the intimate, hands-on approach to winemaking that characterizes many of Chianti's smaller producers. Your visit culminates in a tasting of Casa Emma's wines including their excellent Chianti Classico. The intimate setting allows for a more personal interaction, allowing you to discuss the wines directly with those involved in their creation.

Following the tasting, you'll be treated to a tradtional lunch paired with at the estate's panoramic restaurant. Here, innovative Tuscan cuisine is paired perfectly with Chianti wines, offering a complete sensory experience that celebrates the region's culinary heritage.

Midday: Panzano & Greve in Chianti

After lunch, your journey continues along the scenic roads of Chianti Classico. As you wind through the undulating hills, take in historic castles and charming hamlets that dot the landscape. With its patchwork of vineyards, olive groves, and cypress-lined lanes, this is your chance to absorb the timeless beauty of the Tuscan countryside.

Your first stop is Panzano in Chianti, a charming hilltop village famed for its stunning views and its deep-rooted food and wine culture. You'll have free time to explore its quaint streets and browse artisanal shops selling local products, from hand-crafted ceramics to traditional Tuscan delicacies.

Your journey continue to Greve in Chianti, often considered the gateway to Chianti. Known for its triangular piazza lined with arcades, this vibrant town offers a mix of old-world charm and lively culture. Use your free time to wander through its local shops, wine bars, and open-air markets, or simply enjoy a gelato while soaking in the atmosphere of the main square.

Late Afternoon: Tasting at Fattoria di Vignamaggio

Your final destination is illustrious Fattoria di Vignamaggio, an avant-garde, organic farm and wine cellar more than 600 years old. You'll have the chance to immerse yourself in the vineyards, olive groves, vegetable gardens, and luxuriant fruit orchards that cover more than 400 hectares of the Chianti Classico heartland. Not far from the Fattoria, Villa Vignamaggio stands out due to its a storied history dating back to the 14th century. According to tradition, it is believed to be the birthplace of Lisa Gherardini, better known as the Mona Lisa, the iconic subject of Leonardo da Vinci’s masterpiece.

Your tour of the estate will take you through its cellars and gardens, where you will learn about the evolution of winemaking techniques from the Renaissance to the present day, and how Vignamaggio balances respect for tradition with modern innovation.

The afternoon culminates in a tasting of Vignamaggio's exceptional wines. From classic Chianti Classico to innovative Super Tuscans, each wine tells a story of the estate's terroir and heritage. Your host will guide you through the tasting, providing historical context and helping you appreciate the complex flavors that centuries of expertise have crafted.

As the day draws to a close, your driver will escort you back to your accomodation.
