From Siena, head north into the heart of the Chianti Classico for a day combining two of its most characteristic medieval villages with an immersive winery experience at Antinori nel Chianti Classico. Your first stop is Greve in Chianti, the informal capital of the Chianti Classico, with its distinctive triangular piazza lined with arcaded buildings, butcher shops and enotecas. A short drive brings you to Castellina in Chianti, a compact hilltop village with Etruscan origins and a medieval walkway built into the town walls, the Via delle Volte, that runs beneath the rooftops with views over the surrounding vineyards.

From Castellina, a scenic drive brings you to Antinori nel Chianti Classico near Bargino. A guided tour leads through the gravity-fed winery's architectural spaces, barrel rooms and the suspended tasting hall overlooking the barrique cellar. The tasting covers four signature wines, which may include examples such as Tignanello, Brunello Pian delle Vigne, Badia a Passignano Chianti Classico Gran Selezione and Cervaro della Sala. Lunch follows at Rinuccio 1180, the estate restaurant with panoramic views over the Chianti hills, with traditional Tuscan dishes paired with three further estate wines.
